As early as 1923, Karl Grothe began processing timber at a site on Niedringhausener Str. 173. In addition to furniture, the carpenter also made wheels and drums.
At the age of 28, his son, Willi Grothe, become his master carpenter and became a part of the company, which was further known as Karl Grothe & Son. After the Second World War, the focus of the production was on windows, doors and furniture.
In 1954, the 59-year old Karl Grothe handed over the management of the company to his son. In the following years, the production included for the most part, linings for doors made of limba.
In the golden times of the upturn, in 1964, a new hall with a surface of 200m² was built near the small carpentry building, in 1974, a second extension followed, with an additional 200m². The small company flourished and had temporarily seven employees.
In the 80s, a niche was found in the production of solid cutting boards and so it began with the delivery to the kitchen industry.
The son in law of Willi Grothe, Uwe Stratmann, took over the management of the company in 1991, representing the third generation. In the 90s, the production began to concentrate exclusively on the delivery to the kitchen furniture industry. In addition to molding, cutlery inserts and wooden display cases are manufactured.
In 2001, the company had to file for insolvency, in the wake of a major crisis in the kitchen industry, due to defaults in payments from major customers.
Between 2001 and 2004, the deliveries to faithful customers were further made through a society in transition.
In 2004, Patrick Stratmann, great-grandson of Karl Grothe, founded the company stratmann – individual cutlery inserts and took over the management. With the help of the old customer base and the reorientation of the company strategy, the first employees were successfully recruited after a short period of time.
Today, stratmann – individual cutlery inserts delivers to clients all over Germany and in neighboring countries, with cutlery inserts and interior systems for drawers.
